Having used many platforms over the past two decades, Webflow has shone far brighter in terms of usability for both the developer (me) and, more importantly, you, the client. With Webflow, rarely do clients need to get in touch to say they are having issues with their website or are unable to update and amend it themselves. This contrasts with my WordPress days, or 'WoePress,' as it is known by some. Although still a leading platform, reliability issues persist, constant updating to deal with plug-in fixes and bugs is required, and an unintuitive and cumbersome client editor can be arduous.

You may also be aware of platforms such as Wix and Squarespace. Both are competent platforms that have gained popularity for their ease of use; again, I have used them. However, they are ultimately limited in customisation. You are confined to predictable, template-driven layouts, and the scalability of your site is limited should you wish for greater functionality down the road—it is guaranteed you will need it, even if you can't envisage it now!

Firstly, design should be seen as separate from development. While the two have to work in harmony, letting technical limitations dictate a digital design should be avoided. This is not to say a robust design system isn't needed. Layouts must be fluid yet consistent and responsive to accommodate the various platforms they are viewed on. Therefore, defined style guides and robust design systems (often terms used interchangeably but are actually different from each other) must be consistent and ubiquitous. But let's put design aside for the moment and demonstrate why Webflow is an outstanding development platform, whether you are technically aware of it or not.

Editing and Maintaining Your Site

Every client will want a visually appealing website that functions well—that is a given. However, where you host your site should be carefully considered. You need to be able to maintain, update, and amend your site quickly. This is a primary pain point for clients who cannot manage their site without the need to reach out. Webflow offers a great solution with one of the most slick Client Editors, enabling you to modify content, replace images, or address significant branding alterations without relying on external assistance. This not only saves you time but also reduces costs.

No longer are they faced with a steep learning curve, understanding how to make changes or fear of breaking their site or unintentionally adjusting the formatting of a page. Webflow offers a lot of 'bang for the buck' compared to similar platforms. Yes, it is more premium than some platforms. Still, it comes down to how you value your company and whether you need a robust platform that is secure and probably the easiest to maintain compared to other platforms with less functionality.
